A brainstorm is a form of group discussion activity. The main goal of a brainstorming session is the generation of ideas and solutions to a problem. Therefore, the brainstorming sessions benefit from an absolute lack of evaluation of the generated ideas (at least in the first part of the session).
The more ideas or possible solutions are generated – the better. No idea is too absurd, too untenable. Any comments (negative or positive) could interrupt the smooth flow of the brainstorming session, and therefore should be kept for the next part – the evaluation and filtration of the ideas. This only comes after the brainstorming is completely finished.
