A binary code is a type of code (or network of relationships) based on two elementary signals, such as the dot and dash of the Morse code or the positive and negative electrical impulses. Thus, binarization is a process in which elementary signals from one code (for example, the letters of the English alphabet) are translated into those of binary code (A = 00000; B = 00001; C = 00010; etc.).
The term bit stands for the amount of information (i.e., the number of units of the binary code) required for such a translation to occur.
It takes five bits of information to translate the twenty-six letters of the English alphabet.
