Concern over the environment remained insignificant until 19th-century philosophy. The Romantic preoccupation with the transcendentalist ideal of living in harmony with nature was particularly a reaction to industrialization – the idea was also presented in the philosophy of SSchopenhauer.Arne Naess – the first philosopher who worked in the science of ecology – was a philosopher who used ecological principles to persuade people to care about living in harmony with nature. He urged us to think like mountains when making decisions about protecting the Earth. This helped to grow the environmentalist movement, which began to gain popularity in the 1970s after many scientists began to warn that humans might soon destroy the planet. Later, his ideals were extremely influential on the growing Green political movement that became more serious after the threat of climate change.
