Psychology emerged from philosophy, but soon it established itself as a science. It investigated subjects like perception, memory, thinking, and feeling. Behavioral psychology was born when a number of researchers began to study the ways in which our minds work. Observing both humans and animals, behavioral psychologists devised experiments to examine how we acquire knowledge and how we learn. Cognitive psychology examines the way our brains process and store information. As the focus shifted from ‘minds’ to ‘brains’, cognitive psychology became more closely linked with neuroscience. With advances in computing technology, the analogy of digital data processing also influenced psychological understandings of the human brain. As the emphasis shifted from “mind to brain, psychology moved even closer to neuroscience.
