Focus Group is a term that refers to a group of people that consists of six to twelve people. The people in the focus group ought to share similar characteristics. The group is brought together in a facilitated discussion in order to gather information or opinions about a well-defined topic of interest.
The focus groups are most often used for a company to understand how people will perceive a new product or service. Yet, these groups are rarely effective as they are grouping a specific type of people (similar characteristics) which might or might not be a significant part of the market.
