Jordan Bernt Peterson, born 1962, is well-known for his work in psychology and for speaking out on important issues. He’s also a professor at the University of Toronto, where he teaches classes on topics like personality and mental health. He became a well-known public figure in the late 2010s for his opinions on cultural and political issues and continues to be an influential psychologist.
Born and raised in Alberta, Canada – Peterson has a degree in political science and psychology from the University of Alberta and a PhD in clinical psychology from McGill University. After studying at Harvard, he returned to Canada in 1998 to work as a professor of psychology at the University of Toronto. In 1999, Peterson published his first book, “Maps of Meaning: The Architecture of Belief.” This book was based on his lectures and helped to shape his subsequent work in the field of psychology.
In 2016, Peterson released a series of YouTube videos criticizing a law that had been passed by the Canadian government to add “gender identity and expression” as a protected class under the Canadian Human Rights Act. Peterson’s lectures and conversations, propagated mainly through YouTube and podcasts, soon gathered millions of views.
By 2018, he had put his clinical practice and teaching duties on hold, and published his second book, “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos.” Which soon became a bestseller after it was promoted with a world tour. Peterson faced a lot of health problems in 2019 and 2020 because he suffered from benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome after quitting using the drug.
Recently in 2021, Jordan published his third book, “Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life.” He resigned from the University of Toronto and returned to podcasting. In 2022, Peterson signed a deal with a conservative media company. This company will provide him with content to distribute online and looks forward to more of his work in the online community, psychology lectures, and writings.
