Feminism was a movement that originated in the second half of the 20th century. It was inspired by Simone De Beauvoir’s observation that feminine traits were socially constructed. It challenged many aspects of society, such as the notion that women were inferior to men, and promoted equality between them. A new wave of feminism developed in the 1990s called third-wave feminism, which took a more critical approach to gender issues. Third-wave feminists argued that women had been oppressed throughout history and were still being discriminated against today. This included issues like domestic violence, sexual harassment, abortion rights, equal pay, and rape. Feminists often believed that sex roles should be abolished. Some even said that women could become pregnant without having intercourse. Many people disagreed with this idea, but others agreed and wanted to change society accordingly. Gender Studies emerged as a separate field of study. Sexuality was considered an important factor in determining gender differences. Gender studies include other sexualities than those traditionally accepted by society.
