Jacques Marie Émile Lacan

Jacques Lacan (1901 – 1981) was a contemporary French psychoanalyst and theorist who had a significant influence on today’s semiotics.

His contribution is often described as a broad reinterpretation of psychoanalysis from a structural perspective. More precisely, his concept of the three orders or registers of human experience – the imaginary, the symbolic, and the real – has been adopted by modern semioticians.
