Analytical Philosophy became increasingly interested in the nature of language as the 20th Century progressed. These philosophers wanted to analyze what it means to say something is true or false, and what it means to think about something. So they turned their attention to the nature of language itself, not just what we mean when we speak or write. This led to the development of Linguistic Philosophy, which studied the structure of language, and the way that it works. Some scholars have suggested that the rise of linguistics was partly due to the influence of Logical Positivism, which had come out of the Vienna School of Economics. But others point to the fact that linguistics already existed before the rise of Logical Positivist philosophy. And the idea of studying language scientifically was already present in some schools of German idealism.
