The reason why Socrates’ influence was not forgotten in history was due to his mentee, Plato, who preserved his principles and ideologies in his writings. Plato was one of Socrates’ followers and was immensely inspired by his theories and methods. All of Plato’s works have been made to survive to this day and are still considered an object of further analysis in the study of philosophy.
Plato’s work is mainly based on the type of Socratic dialogues mentioned earlier, and the main character in many of them was incessantly Socrates having discussions and debates with the residents and intellectuals of Athens. However, a major issue with Plato’s works is that we remain unaware of whether these dialogues were really intended as such by Socrates or whether these words are simply Plato’s take on them. There is indeed a series of original writings and Plato’s ideas, but it’s often difficult to set his concepts apart from his mentor’s as they are deeply influenced by the teachings of Socrates.
