Roman Jakobson

Roman Jakobson (1896 -1982) is a contemporary linguist that makes an important contribution by synthesizing the Saussurean and Peircean semiological traditions.

According to Jakobson the subject of semiological research is the communication of each message, while the linguistic field is restricted to communicating a verbal message. That means that between semiotics and linguistics, the latter has a narrower field. Yet, each message that a human sends predisposes to a verbal message.
