Possession of status or ability inherent in an agent (actor) – a person, mechanism, or any other object through which a process begins and probably continues or through which some force is exercised and some change is achieved.
We usually think of agents as individuals, but for modern semiotics, one important fact is the addition that sign systems are inherently vital and powerful forces capable of shaping the ways in which human beings and other sign users think, feel, speak and write. With such an approach, the false sign system can be considered as an agency.
