Critical Theory came about after the end of World War I and it focused on changing the world. Critical theorists were looking for ways to make things better. They wanted to use their knowledge to improve the world. The Frankfurt School had many famous people who worked together and studied. Some of these people include Erich Fromm, Herbert Marcuse, and Max Horkheimer. These three people influenced the movement. Critical theory was not successful because it failed to change anything. This is because the system was too strong. Critical theory tried to overthrow the system by creating new ideas and putting them into practice. This did not work because the system was too powerful.
Philosophers of the Frankfurt School sought to challenge ideologies, in particular those that impose a worldview designed to perpetuate the status quo. Their methods include sociological analysis and psychological theory. Theoretical approaches are applied to a critical examination of existing social systems, with the aim of producing a synthesis that produces reform.
