In classic Greek philosophy, one of the major concerns in philosophical debates was justice, which can be found in Socrates’s discussions. In the 1970s philosophers were compelled to divert to this idea of fairness and justice as a consequence of American capitalist democracy. Justice as Fairness is a system of distribution of rights, resources, and positions within a society – introduced by John Rawls. John put forward a thought experiment called ‘the veil of ignorance where participants would create an imaginary society and distribute rights and resources where they will then live. With this, he represented his idea that justice is achieved when every person is treated equally and fairly. People without power and money are given equal opportunities to access those things. Everyone is forced to be impartial and treat everyone else equally. This means they should not favor their friends over other people. A system based on equality and fairness is called Liberalism.
