Much has been done on diversity in both structuralism and poststructuralism.
It is used to explain the most important units in language and the way they originate; the rhetoric of difference (otherness) is also used to highlight the elusive yet powerful ways in which important differences are displaced and even suppressed.
“We perceive differences,” notes A. J. Greimas, “and thanks to this perception the world is formed before us and for our purposes” (1966, 19).
